4 freQuencies cancelled today! :(
May 4th, 2008
|
Dear friends and fans,
unfortunately due to my incredibly busy schedule I have been forced to cancel this month’s show. I am trying to arrange with DI for another slot and to make a “condensed” one hour or two hour version of it later this month.
Apologies for the inconvenience and see you soon on DI again ;)

freQuencies and production tutorials!
January 14th, 2008
|
Hello hello!
I know many of you have been disappointed with 4 freQuencies missing this month! Unfortunately I have had some problems as I relocated to Sweden for a one month period for work reasons. I have not had stable connection all the time and I have been very busy which resulted in not having enough time to organize and compile the show. Hopefully I will be able to make up for it soon in the form of a special mix for DI.FM to put on rotation.
I am also thinking of creating some video-tutorials about trance and electronic music production showing some of secrets to make kick-ass productions. As soon as I am back in London I’ll get to work on this. In the meantime I’d love to hear what you think about this idea!

freQuencies…
September 16th, 2007
|
Apparently there’s been some confusion regarding today’s schedule. freQuencies is not supposed to air today, I just moved back to the UK and I am looking into changing the show’s concept into a monthly show with more fresh tracks. I am going to make a decision about how the show will change later this week and I will make sure to keep you all informed!
Regarding promos: I haven’t been able to check the promos during the last weeks, I’ll try to catch up soon!

freQuencies: 5th August ‘07 - end of season!
July 31st, 2007
|
Dear listeners,
here we go…the last show for this third season of freQuencies!
I know, I know - don’t panic! freQuencies should be back in September, stronger and fresher than ever!
I will be away again in the next weeks and I will be relocating to Denmark for a few months (work reasons!) in late August, so feedback on demos/promos will take a while to be received but be sure I’ll check all the entries.
Please consider this if you sent through yousendit and the likes, as links might expire without me being able to check them!
I hope everybody’s enjoying the summer ;)

|
Away for a while…
July 4th, 2007

I have suggested a replay of a nice freQuencies episode - that received a lot of good comments -for 15th July, keep your eyes on DI.FM for more info soon ;)

What’s up with trance music?
March 19th, 2007
|
-Well well, so trance music is becoming increasingly popular all the time…and that’s good.
-It is not only in undeground clubs/raves that we hear trance. We hear it on radio, in clubs and we even heard it at Athens’ summer games opening…and that’s good.
-More people know this kind of music, even if often only the commercial side of it and can sometimes even distinguish between ‘trance’ and ‘house’ music…and that’s good!
- Because of the internet we can buy trance music easily, legally and conveniently through online stores. People no longer have to travel the world to find a cd or download it illegally even if they wish to purchase it legally because the supply is simply not there…and that’s good!
- Virtual instruments have allowed a whole new generation to get familiar with music production and do it as a hobby…and that’s good!
So, this looks great right? It doesn’t…at least not for everyone!
People who have approached trance during the last few years are very excited about it, they find it a refreshing experience, full of new electronic sounds, catchy enough to listen to at home and really enjoy it. And…you know what? That’s good! In fact, that’s a sign that the ‘trance’ style of music is no longer confined to the underground and some stupid stereotypes such as ‘you gotta be on drugs to listen to techno/trance (or any other dance music)’ are slowly disappearing. People are appreciating the complexity of this style.
What’s bad then? Well…from the point of view of someone who has known electronic music for a long time and has seen trance evoluting into what it is today, a lot of things are…
- Supply has never been so high, that should be good right? It’s not…while technically most of the tracks are superior in sound-quality than, say, 10 years ago - they lack originality. Virtual instruments presets are heard all over new tracks…the average listener may not notice this but he will perceive it. Let’s not complain then, when some person with a different musical background says “electronic music sounds all the same…”
- The concept has changed: as I was mentioning a few articles back, trance has gone from being a club / dance style to a home-listening experience. This is good in that more people are quietly enjoying it and relaxing to it. However, this has implications. Supply always watches demand and follows its taste…more and more tracks nowadays lack the energy that was delivered by old-school trance, the kind of energy that could shake a dancefloor and make people dance. Instead, nowadays trance focuses on harmonies and atmospheres. The big take-offs are rarely heard, floor shaking snare rolls are disappearing and bassdrums are not booming anymore.
Some like it, some hate it…I personally see it as a negative point, but as the Romans used to say ‘de gustibus non disputandum est’, which can be roughly translated to ‘taste is taste and can’t be questioned’. So let’s leave it at personal taste!
- A lot of radio DJs play the same songs over and over, following the trend-setters. This used to be different in the past, when music wasn’t so easily found, DJs used to do more research and tried to differentiate their styles as much as possible. Nowadays, we keep hearing the same hits over and over. The consequence is that, while in the past tracks used to have a longer life, nowadays a track’s old after one week and sometimes people won’t even bother buying it when it gets released because ‘it’s old…’
So while I see trance music evoluting I also see it backfiring, will the excess of supply bore the listeners? Has part of them already got bored? How will the music keep evoluting?
Well…now I’m curious to hear your comments ;) Please keep it nice and objective!

Massive freQuencies tomorrow…
March 3rd, 2007
|
Oh mamma mia…you do not want to miss this show!!!
2 hours: Giorgio Ponticelli Fresh Rotation
Guest: DJ Mono, from Turkey
Giorgio’s part starts off melodic and epic and turns into a tech-trance fest during the second half…Having received a great quantity of promos you can expect the highest quality as usual! If you have never listened to freQuencies before…well, tomorrow is the day to start doing it!
DJ Mono’s mix will touch the hardtrance field delivering an action packed mix that you will not forget easily!
DJ Mono was previously known as DJ Adore and Turkish clubbers know what quality is connected to that name: Some of which are still recovering from Giorgio’s and Mono’s back-to-back DJ set held more than a year ago in Bursa :)
Great combination for a great show…don’t miss it!
Finally, have a great weekend and party lots on Saturday night!!!

December 18th, 2006

First of all, thanks to all the DI.FM listeners who wished me happy birthday during my show! It is actually on the 19th but I thought I’d celebrate in advance on my show witha special 2hour set by me! I hope you enjoyed it!

zZz…hey I am awake!!! :) Let’s discuss something!
December 11th, 2006
|
So, a few people have been wondering when my next production will be out…the answer is, I do not know…Ever since I have moved to London I haven’t had much time to produce and to be honest, I haven’t completed any tracks! freQuencies is also hard to keep running, but I don’t plan to stop it anytime soon! ;)
On another note, in order to invite my users to a more interactive experience I’d like to start a discussion here on the website about everybody’s music preference at the moment!
I’ll kick off:
- I am really into the tech-influenced music at the moment. The aggressive style with chunky percussive drumloops! I am not as much into progressive, I still find that it lacks that tension that is typical of techno and trance music. You know, that energetic factor that made us dance to super-fast music over 10 years ago (on this note, anybody remembers about it?), it’s simply hard to find these days and I think it’s a pity…trance music has turned into a home-listening experience rather than a party/club/dance experience hence the style has lost part of its original feeling but hey, you can’t stop evolution!
To sum up, tech-trance is great at the moment where as I feel melodic trance is slowly losing appeal (for me at least)…
So, any thoughts? feel free to use the comment function here and leave a message, I’m really curious!
Ciao!

Special show: “Waiting for freQuencies” on Sunday!
September 29th, 2006
|
I have finally moved to London and while I’m waiting to settle properly (and get a continuos connection to the internet) i have prepared a special show for Sunday. It’s a 1 hour 30 show that features fresh selection and free rotation together…let’s say, a preview of what’s to come in the next season of freQuencies!
As usual, on www.di.fm , 20.00 CET / 2 PM US East, Sunday 1st October.
Speaking of, it is not yet sure when this new season will start but I hope to be able to begin on the third Sunday of October or the first Sunday of November. Stay tuned, I’ll post any updates as soon as they’re available!

The new freQuencies season!
September 17th, 2006
|
There is still no precise starting date for the new season of freQuencies even though, very probably (and hopefully) it should be October 15th.
But no worries, we will have a show on October 1st as well! It will be a 1 hour 30 mix of fresh selection and free rotation, no guests. This special version of the show will be called “Waiting for freQuencies”.
This delay is due to me moving to London, I am not yet sure when I will be able to access the internet (this means: receiving promos from artists and record companies, uploading the show etc…) once I move there so I will need some time in order to set this all up! I apologize for this delay and I hope to solve the problem as soon as possible…
By the way…did anybody say a new episode of The World In the Mix is coming up soon? Well, you might be right! ;)

Giorgio’s 10 years of music special on DI.FM!
September 11th, 2006
|
Wow, times goes fast! In a few days I’ll celebrate 10 years since I made my very first song! Of course it sounded really bad but it was a beginning. The track was actually produced on October 14th, but I have decided to celebrate in advance since I am not yet sure of my schedule in October.
In order to celebrate I am preparing a special freQuencies show that will be broadcasted on Sunday 17th September. Expect some surprises and a great 3 hour set! Rumors have it I will eventually play my first track ever…we’re going to have a laugh, I promise! Don’t miss it!!!
